Here
are some of the key points of what we are asking from our legislative
representatives: student debtor consumer protections, return of
bankruptcy rights and protections, a flat rate interest on student loan
debt, institution of student loan forgiveness programs by government
and private sectors (with tax incentives), and a statute of limitation
on all student loan debts of ten years.
There are numerous other rights and protections that we are advocating,
and these needed to be requested. Otherwise, as many of us are aware,
we will be enslaved to the student loan creditors for the rest of our
lives. They will continue to attach wages without any ability on our
part to prevent it.
The
student loan creditors will keep luring prospective students into the
student loan trap. With the economy the way it has been going, we don't
even have equity in our homes or a decent-paying job to be able to make
the payments. The interest accumulates on our debts as we speak.
We ask that you read the bill and forward copies of it to as many
people as you know who are dealing with this issue or who will support
us. Then contact your state and federal legislative representatives,
sending them a copy of the bill and requesting that they sponsor it and
help it to pass through the legislature.
